The Process of Shipping a Vehicle

While details can vary by route, vehicle type, and provider, the vehicle shipping process follows a clear set of steps. Use this guide to plan confidently, avoid delays, and protect your car from pickup to delivery.

1) Request and Compare Car Shipping Quotes

Start by gathering auto transport rates from reputable companies. Compare price, insurance, delivery windows, and reviews—not just the cheapest offer. Once you select a carrier or broker, you’ll complete basic paperwork, pay a deposit if required, and schedule your pickup and delivery.

2) Decide on Service Options

Choose the method that fits your needs and budget: open carrier (most affordable) or enclosed transport (maximum protection). Decide between door‑to‑door or terminal‑to‑terminal service, and confirm any special handling for low‑clearance, luxury, or inoperable vehicles.

7) If There’s an Issue

If you notice damage, document it immediately with photos and notes on the BOL, and contact your transport company to begin the claims process according to their policy.
